Issues
Taxes and Spending
Our current state budget mess is the result of runaway
government spending. The legislature wants taxpayers
to foot the bill. I say enough of this nonsense. I
oppose new taxes - period. And, I will fight to control this runaway
spending and cut our government down to size. I am
proud to be endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers
Association.
Agriculture
As a rancher, I have been a longtime advocate for California's farmers and ranchers, including my involvement in
strengthening private property rights.
In the Assembly, I will push to protect private property
rights and to increase California's water storage so that our farms have the water they
need.
Strong Law Enforcement
I absolutely oppose the plan to give an early release
to so-called 'non-violent' criminals. As a member of the Board of Prison Terms,
I fought to keep hardened criminals from being released
into our communities. And, in the Assembly, I will
continue that fight.
I strongly support the death penalty. In the Senate,
I co-authored California's Crime Victims Bill of Rights and a measure allowing
the Governor to block parole for a convicted killer.
That's one reason why Crime Victims United has endorsed
my candidacy.
Additionally, I am in favor of building as many prisons
as it takes to keep hardened criminals behind bars.
I am also opposed to dumping parolees in rural communities
like ours.
Immigration
We need to immediately seal the border.
Then we can fix our other problems - but there is no solution until the flow of illegal
immigrants is cut off.
There's no reason why we can't control our border to keep drugs and illegal immigrants
from coming into California.
Traditional Family
I support traditional marriage.
Period.
And, I oppose anything that would redefine the family.
I am also adamantly opposed to assisted suicide. There's no reason to discard our elderly.
Energy
Lack of planning has made the United States far too
dependent upon foreign oil. I support an energy policy
that calls for the immediate exploration for new sources
of oil, while also looking at expanding alternatives
like wind and hydro-electric. We simply cannot afford to do nothing.
